Get to know YGG Co-founder Gabby Dizon, NFT Games in 2023, and the evolution of gaming guilds 🎮
Luis (3:27): YGG is a guild of guilds, in the sense that we're made up of other guilds. What do you think is the role of gaming guilds in this new space?
Gabby (3:36): First, gaming guilds have existed for a long time, as early as Ultima Online in the late 1990s, World of Warcraft in 2014. So the concept of guilds itself is not new. What's different is that guilds now have the ability to own assets that have value. So that's what YGG does. It owns assets that have value in different games, and then it attracts communities to these games to play them and improve the economy and funding.
Luis (4:04): What can we expect from YGG in 2023?
Gabby (4:07): We're building more on the reputational systems. We have the Guild Advancement Program (GAP), which we pioneered last year, where players play different games and then get token achievement rewards when they finish these quests. And we're expanding this into different universes of the games we're doing. We're also focusing on esports, where we had a successful Axie Open Manila tournament for Axie Infinity. We'll be doing more of this.
Luis (4:36): The Axie Open event was a highlight for YGG Pilipinas and all the folks involved. What can you tell us about the way Filipinos are finding out about educational initiatives?
Gabby (4:50): Education is exciting. We have the Web3 Metaversity program, which we’ll be expanding. This is our partnership with Nas Academy. And apart from the classes we have, people will also be earning achievements when they finish these courses.
Luis (5:10): You can actually get your GAP badges from being a learner in the Metaverse. That's pretty awesome. We're now a few years into the web3 gaming phenomenon. What are some of the games you're personally interested in?
Gabby (5:23): I'm excited about My Pet Hooligan. I think their Karrot Gang is great and they're coming out with great content this year. I'm also excited about DigiDaigaku and Mighty Action Heroes.
