YGG Play Summit: How to Succeed in Web3 as a Content Creator
At the YGG Play Summit, Sedano spoke with Daredevil Media CEO Jared Dillinger, cosplayer Een Mercado, and 4,4 Labs founder YellowPanther about what skills content creators need to thrive in Web3.
The YGG Play Summit was a resounding success in onboarding more Web2 creators into Web3. Over the week, mixers like Match + Play connected content creators to Web3 games that aligned with their interests. Opportunities like WolvesDAO’s CreatorDEN also carved out space for international creators to collaborate and share practical tips about producing content while traveling.
For the panel “From Passion to Profit: Navigating the Creator Life,” YGG Pilipinas Campaign Manager John Sedano spoke with Daredevil Media founder and CEO Jared Dillinger, Web2 gaming content creator and cosplayer Een Mercado, and the 2024 GAM3 Awards Content Creator of the Year, YellowPanther, on how they have leveraged their content creation skills to succeed in Web3.
Below is an excerpt from their conversation, where Jared highlights the importance of maximizing networking opportunities as a content creator. YellowPanther cites being organized as a great way to deliver consistently, while Een explains the trick to reaching big numbers — passion and impact.

YGG Play Summit: From Passion to Profit
Sedano (37:55): There's also social skill involved in being able to create content IRL, but aside from that, what skills would you say content creators need to thrive in Web3?
Jared (38:12): Business-wise, just get out of your shell. That is the biggest thing. I want to encourage you all: don't be shy. Don't say, “Oh, I'm shy. I can't. It's hard for me.” No. Break out of it. I'm telling you, if you can't, maybe even generate an alter ego, or whatever is going to get your head space out from being shy, do it.
In the business space, it doesn't matter what you're in, whether it’s video games, crypto, or sports. It's all about building relationships with people. You have to talk. You have to tell them what you're good at and the value that you can bring. It starts with communication. If you're not going to put yourself out there, then no one's going to know what you can offer or what you can do in the first place.
That's always my biggest thing. Get out of your head space and put yourself out there. You might fail. You might look silly. You might get laughed at. Whatever it is, at the end of the day, no one cares, and you're still your own self, right? So just go for it. Why not?
YellowPanther (39:25): I would say planning and being organized is a very important skill. I have a whole Notion and content calendar plan. It has to be well planned a few weeks ahead to keep the content going. This is because one of the shortcomings for a lot of content creators is not being consistent. You know, one day you show up, the second day you are gone. You can't be a content creator like that. You know you have to show up day in, day out.
I have an interesting question for Een, because she's been doing content for longer than me. But people always just see the fun part. Can you describe some of the behind-the-scenes, the actual work?
Een (40:40): On my side, there's so much self-doubt because, being on social media, you chase numbers. Because that's what they look at. And I cannot lie, if someone tells me, “Don’t think about the numbers because it's not about the numbers” — when you talk to the people who get you the job, they think about the numbers.
Maybe it's about the impact. Maybe to get the numbers, I need to have that impact on the things that I love to do. That's when I put my heart into my content. If I love the content, I don't care how much or how far it will go.
