YGG Global Hangout: Unlocking the GAP Formula
Wrapping up GAP Season 6, FallenCorpsez and AC gathered the community in a YGG Global Hangout to celebrate and talk about experimenting with mechanics to ensure the sustainability of the program.
The recently concluded Guild Advancement Program (GAP) Season 6 was a record-setting success, with 9,674 unique questers, over 1.5 million YGG tokens earned, and 83,405 quest enrollments, nearly surpassing the combined enrollments from the first five seasons. The latest iteration featured double the games and the introduction of new bounty quests focused on AI. GAP veterans and newcomers found a variety of activities to enjoy during the nearly two-month-long season.Â
With rewards now available for claiming, YGG went live in a global hangout and drew a raffle to reward GAP Premium Season Pass holders and some lucky participants with bonus prizes. Over 1,600 people tuned in to the stream via Discord and YouTube. Community members with the most completed quests gained additional token rewards, while raffle prizes went out to players who completed their premium quests from games such as Guild of Guardians and Parallel. The hosts, YGG Community Manager FallenCorpsez and YGG Community Helper AC, also talked about how the guild protocol actively approached community feedback, taking it all on board for the next seasons of GAP.
The following is an excerpt from the livestream, where FallenCorpsez addresses the community’s questions about shifting to YGG Points and explains why release dates tend to change. He and AC also talk about GAP still being in its infancy and what the team is doing to ensure that more seasons will be launched in the coming years.
YGG Global Hangout: GAP S6 Rewards + Giveaway
FallenCorpsez (41:19): There's a lot of ongoing feedback about conversion rates and points. There's a lot of people asking why we've swapped over to points itself. What are the reasons behind the conversion rates, and will they be the same every season? Stuff like that. The reason why we swapped to points and why the conversion rate doesn't get mentioned at the beginning is because we need to ensure the survivability of GAP. We did have a huge amount of people trying to game the system and bots trying to come in and extract a lot of the value. We've gotten rid of that. Just remember, if we didn't have conversion rates, the prize pools would be drastically skewed. Bad actors will be taking tokens away from people that have actually earned them. It’s the reason why we don’t talk about conversion rates.Â
Another reason for adopting points is that we wanted to open other systems that you'll be able to use points for. You won't necessarily have to claim YGG tokens only. Maybe there'll be various other rewards, whether they're NFTs or real-life things that your points can go towards. I also want to clarify that there are various multipliers that we've added this season. We added a 2x multiplier to bounty quests and premium quests because we heard community feedback that they didn't feel that the rewards were reflecting the amount of work put in. So we made a change. Even though this is our sixth season of doing GAP, this is an ever-evolving program and very much in its infancy. We're still working on a lot of the details to continue to improve and make this as big a deal to you guys as we can. We are really, really listening to your feedback.Â
I'm sure we're going to stumble more on the way. We're going to try our best not to, but that's just something that happens when you're building from scratch. There's going to be things that work, and there's going to be things that don't work.
AC (43:53): We're doing it for the long run with you guys.
FallenCorpsez (43:58): Exactly. We don't want to exhaust our pool of tokens in one season and then not be able to do future GAP seasons. I don't think anybody wants that. I'm seeing a lot of people saying that the website is having issues. That's probably because we just flooded the claiming with the announcement on Twitter as well as announcing it here. Guys, there's no big rush to go out and get your points. Claiming is open for a huge amount of time. If you want to avoid getting errors or possibly screwing something up, I would highly advise waiting a little bit.Â
I personally will not be claiming my tokens for another 24 hours or whatever, just till the traffic has gone down. You have lots of time. No need to go in there and go crazy. Fingers crossed, you don't encounter an error or something, and then you have to open a ticket and wait for us to sort it out, because that would suck more. Word of advice here. I would wait a little bit and let the traffic die down a bit.Â
Like I said, in Season 6, we had a really great turnout. We've built a lot of different things here. Please fill out that community survey form so we can hear your feedback. I know a lot of people were upset with us moving around dates. The reason we do that is because certain things break when we're developing them. As you can see right now, the website is getting flooded, and it's having a hard time to do with that. So sometimes dates need to be moved around.
AC (46:04): It's a sign that we're growing.
