YGG Global Hangout: Group Questing for Onchain Guilds

Gabby and FallenCorpsez caught up with the community in a YGG Global Hangout to talk about GAP Season 7 and its group quests to scale web3 rewards ahead of the launch of Onchain Guilds.

With YGG’s transition to a Guild Protocol, groups across web3 can soon become Onchain Guilds and receive access to YGG’s tools to help them scale. In the lead up to the launch of Onchain Guilds, Season 7 of the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) is re-introducing group questing, giving guilds an opportunity to strategize, coordinate, and climb the leaderboards for greater rewards. Group questing can help prepare guilds to get organized, so they can reap the full benefits when they become an Onchain Guild.

To celebrate the launch of GAP Season 7, YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon joined YGG Game Operations Manager FallenCorpsez in a community AMA to discuss the biggest updates to GAP. Besides group questing, they covered the improved rewards claiming process, the new active staking program, and the games making their GAP debuts this season. 

The following is an excerpt from the AMA, where Gabby and Fallen discuss the rationale behind these changes in this transition season of GAP. Gabby also shares his advice for how guilds can start gearing up to maximize Onchain Guilds’ tools for self-governance through group questing.

YGG Global Hangout: GAP S7

Gabby (7:26): We're evolving the way that we are doing rewards. As you know, YGG has always been known to be the best place for guilds in web3. A lot of you have been with us for over a year with your respective guilds. Some of you have already started your own guilds playing these games. This is in preparation for our launch of Onchain Guilds. That is happening soon. Very soon, actually.

We think that the way to scale web3 rewards — because the hard part about it is that if more and more people play games, it's hard to be able to reward everybody. Not all actions are equal. Some are more valuable than others. So, our way of scaling this and also being able to support our guilds is to enable group questing, or guild questing. So, I would say that GAP Season 7 is a transition season. We've started doing some guild quests manually. We know what some of your guilds are because we've been asking in the form what guild you’re part of.

There are some quests that have specific rewards assigned to them, where only the guild leader can join the quest. Then, the guild leader will work with guild members to do the actions in-game, then we'll be counting the guild leaderboard and giving out rewards to the guild leader. From there, it's the responsibility of the guild leader to see how they will reward their guild members.

So for the guilds, you have to organize yourselves. You have to organize to hit the goals, be on the guild leaderboards, and receive the rewards. But beyond that, when you receive the rewards, you also have to organize yourselves on how you are distributing the rewards. Now, we at YGG, we're not going to tell you how you distribute the rewards. It could be that you're rewarding everyone who's playing. It could be that you're rewarding only the top performers. So it's for guilds to also be able to figure out how we can just organize ourselves and then compete for guild rewards.

FallenCorpsez (9:47): We're really just helping facilitate the rewarding and the questing portion. It's up to the guild leaders themselves to be their own democracy, in a sense, where they give out rewards and choose who is deserving of that, right? So it's kind of a hands-on, slash, hands-off approach, right? 

Gabby (10:09): Yeah, that’s right. Soon, we'll be releasing Onchain Guilds. With Onchain Guilds, you will have an official guild membership, guild registry, and your own guild multi-sig wallet. That's an important way for all guilds to have their own official wallet as a guild and to see who your members are. This is really what we're evolving towards at YGG.
