YGG AMA: Seamless Questing Through API Integration with Web3 Games
FallenCorpsez and N0acls are joined by Dae to discuss plans for improving the GAP’s quest creation and vetting process by integrating APIs.
With the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) Season 4 concluding on November 1, 2023, YGG hosted a wrap-up AMA session to discuss questions from the community, plans to scale the program through APIs to add new games, and how to join the GAP Council to get early updates about the product and impact its development.
This AMA had YGG Program Manager Dae join Game Operations Manager FallenCorpsez and Game Ambassador and content creator, N0acls, in conversation about how the guild is streamlining all aspects of the GAP. Especially as YGG adds more games to its roster, the group discussed how automation could aid in further expanding the GAP, including leveraging AI to generate artwork for the soulbound achievements.
In the following excerpt, Dae shares YGG's plans to automate the quest submission process, enabling quest creators to vet submissions within the dapp. The group also talks about integrating APIs for games like Champions Ascension, Star Atlas and Pixels, which will allow them to plug their quests into the GAP and speed up the verification process for quest submissions.

YGG Wrap-up AMA: GAP Season End
FallenCorpsez (10:26): November 1 is going to be the deadline. We will stop all the form submissions, but that doesn't mean that if you have an issue, [let's say] you submitted the wrong screenshot for one quest, that you won't be able to open a ticket and say, “Hey, I see that I've been rejected. I want to update my submission with the proper stuff.” We will try our best to get around to all of those and update them accordingly.
But that's why it's taken so long. We do want to eventually get this to a point where it's automated in a sense, where we have API access and actually look at your level right away and do it. Obviously, that's not feasible for some quests. But if we want to scale this up, we do need to have some form of automation for the quests.
N0acls (11:52): We do have a couple of games that have been integrated already. So maybe in the future, it'll be easier.
FallenCorpsez (11:59): Yeah, for sure. Pixels is one of those games that we've been talking to. Again, Elephantium has a close-knit connection to the community and a lot of people developing tools there. So we are in talks with a lot of games. Dae, I'm sure you could probably elaborate on how much we'd like to change this up a little bit, but it's something definitely on top of our minds. Do you want to give a little input on that?
Dae (12:25): Yeah, sure. So at the time of the planning for Season 4, not a lot was ready API-wise, not only on the side of our dapp, but also on the side of games. This is not something that they put as a priority, but now that the questing system is flourishing and they see the point of having the community involved at that layer, they put more effort into working on these APIs. So we are looking at ways to make it work. But as you mentioned, it will be on a case-by-case basis, because it's not something that we can just replicate across the board. That’s dedicated effort for the different games or categories. And, yeah, as you mentioned, it will not be available for the game.
That being said, we are still looking forward to opting for some features native to our dapp to facilitate not only the uploads of proofs when needed but also integrating the forms into the website directly instead of resorting to outsourcing it to another platform. So at least you will be in the same place to provide your proof, but this is the same for quest owners. Instead of vetting inside spreadsheets, they will be able to vet it through the website directly, so we're looking at ways to at least facilitate it, waiting for all that automation. We go for midway assisting tools. So hopefully some of these tools will be ready for next season. We are doing our best and crossing our fingers.
N0acls (14:28): Right. The good thing is that I know games like Champions Ascension — they've got that data accessible within the game. And I know we did something like this with the Axie Superquests, and Axie has that integrated into their game as well. Star Atlas mentioned it was possible when we spoke with them. So I think we'll get there. It's just a matter of these different games and projects integrating this and working together with YGG in order to get it going with the quests and the GAP as well.
FallenCorpsez (15:01): Yeah, as we scale — Dae, I think that's something we've chatted about — we want to set up a process so that if we are going to add quests, we have that API access for almost all of them. And then that way, whenever we onboard a new game for quests, we can just go through this pipeline of adding them, getting API access, getting that integrated, and then developing the quest — versus the way we've been doing it now, which is, obviously, when a game comes up and we like it, or it's exciting for the community, we piece together whatever quests we can without asking if there is API access.
Dae (15:42): Yeah, exactly. So the technical part of it was less of a concern. But as we scale, that’s something that will play an increasingly big part in making these decisions.
