YGG AMA: Leveling Up Together Through the Axie Infinity SUPERQUESTS
In this special AMA to celebrate the launch of the Axie Infinity SUPERQUESTS, Gabby and Jihoz talk about collaborating to provide the best opportunities for the web3 gaming community.
The Yield Guild Games (YGG) community hopped on an AMA session to talk about the recently launched SUPERQUESTS, the newest way for guild members to learn web3 games and earn in-game rewards.
In partnership with Sky Mavis, the guild introduced the first iteration of the quests in Axie Infinity: Origins, aiming to offer the best web3 gaming experience for YGG members. Collaborating closely with YGG's Community Manager, Kookoo, and YGG Elite player, spamandrice, the teams have developed a fun and easy-to-follow curriculum through short-form videos.
In the AMA, YGG Community Marketing Manager John Sedano discussed the launch of SUPERQUESTS with YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon and Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin, who highlighted the initiative’s components beyond game integration, especially the educational component.
Both speakers expressed their appreciation for the joint effort and their excitement about future collaborations on Axie Infinity and other top web3 games. They also talked about the two-pronged approach of the quests by engaging both casual and competitive players through the program.
The following is an excerpt from the AMA. Listen to the event recording at YGG Twitter, and hear from other speakers including Kookoo, spamandrice and more, as they talk about what you can expect from the Axie SUPERQUESTS.

YGG AMA: Introducing SUPERQUESTS
Jihoz (31:10): With the amount of work that we've put into Origins, making it more engaging, adding in the Axie Experience Points (AXP) layer, which we just announced yesterday, we think that it's a good time for people to start taking another look at Origins.
We know that there are people that may have played Origins at the beginning, might have thought that it wasn't for them, might have thought that it was a little bit challenging to get started. And so we wanted to work with YGG to figure out some sort of a structure, some sort of a campaign that could get people to take a look at all the progress that we've made in Origins.
We’re really excited that these kinds of dual quests are being spearheaded by Kookoo and spam, who each have their own unique angles to being caterers in the ecosystem.
Kookoo is probably one of the people who onboarded the most people to web3 in the world of all time. I don't think that's an over-exaggeration. I think he's really onboarded tens of thousands, perhaps even hundreds of thousands of people to web3. He made a video on how to get started with Axie Infinity that had a million views on YouTube. I think that there are only one or two web3 gaming videos on YouTube with a million views. And he's always had this gift for making blockchain gaming accessible, enticing and relatable to everyday people.
On the other hand, we have spam. Spam is the esports competitor in the Axie ecosystem that has a really great bond with the community. He's known for also streaming Axie, having this really deep personal connection with his audience, appraising their Axies, giving them advice. And so I think he's like a really great person to lead the more competitive class where it's like you're learning more about how to get involved with the competitive side of the ecosystem, how to build up your teams, how to optimize your compositions and your win rate.
I think each class has its own unique, interesting audience. And I think we'll start to see more of these quest systems evolve. It's really great to see YGG leading the way in terms of iterating and putting something out in the market to start observing real player behaviors.
Sedano (33:58): It’s really good to see that you guys are catering to two different audiences — we have the casual gamers and those who are more competitive. This has always been the sentiment in the community. We’ve always wanted to give opportunities to both casual players and those who take it seriously, and who better to be those guides and have people to look up to them than Kookoo and spam?
My next question here would be for you, Gabby. What will the SUPERQUESTS with Axie look like in the future? And also, how does this look, scaled with other projects? What do you have envisioned?
Gabby (34:47): If you look at the structure of the SUPERQUESTS, and for those who are signing up, there are a lot of components that we've developed with our awesome team in the last year. So there's not just the game integration. We want people to get into the quest inside the game. We have the education component. That's why we have two of our best content creators, Kookoo and spam. And we want to make sure that people don’t just play the game, but they stay in the game and enjoy it. That's why we're structuring the quests this way.
And obviously, this is the first quest. This is the initial launch. We'd love to do more quests, both with Axie Infinity, as we learned from this experience, and with other top web3 games in the future. And I think this is what you'll see in future platforms and web3.
There's a lot of building that's been going on in the last couple of years. YGG was really heads down. We released our new web app and rune system in March, which we'll see more of later this year. And I think this onboarding is the way that we scale guilds.
We've always been about guild communities from day one. We built guild communities not only in the Philippines but across Southeast Asia, India, Latin America, Japan, Korea — and across different games apart from Axie. We have guilds in games like League of Kingdoms and Gran Saga. And we want to make sure that we give the best opportunities in the Metaverse for the people, depending on what their skills and what their interests are.
This is the first one. I'm sure we'll learn a ton. But I think this is just the first of many engagements we'll get with Axie. We're just starting to onboard people on how to get into Origins, how to play if you're coming from Classic or v2. There's a lot more to teach. And there's a lot more to learn with Axie Origins.
