YGG AMA: How Doubling Down on Guild Engagement Benefits Illuvium
John Sedano and N0ACLs are joined by Illuvium’s Andrew Wall and Tarren Gill for an AMA session to shine a spotlight on the game and talk about the studio’s plans for further collaborations with YGG.
In this YGG AMA, hosts John Sedano, YGG’s Community Marketing Manager, and N0ACLs, a web3 content creator who waves the YGG banner, are joined by Illuvium's Executive Producer, Andrew Wall, and Influencer Manager, Tarren Gill. The group talks about Illuvium's interoperable universe, the advantages of incorporating guild-exclusive features in web3 games, the team's vision for integrating NFTs into gaming experiences, and much more.
Illuvium is a fantasy battle game that features immersive gameplay with NFT creatures called Illuvials. It immerses players in a graphically rich sci-fi adventure experience across seven alien landscapes while they uncover the cataclysmic events that shattered the world of Illuvium.
The following is an excerpt from the AMA where the panel talks about the features of the game in detail and also takes a look at how community governance has evolved within the Illuvium community. Watch the full recording on YouTube.
YGG AMA: Illuvium ft. Tarren Gill and Andrew Wall
Andrew (41:15): A big part of our strategy in the future, when we ramp up marketing once again for Illuvium, moving toward open beta and launch window, is doubling down on guild engagement and getting the ideas directly from guilds on what they want, and taking it from there.
But there's a bunch of no-brainer ones that are going to happen anyway, like the rental and competitive aspects. Those are going to happen no matter what.
And the part that we need to figure out is what's the icing on top that guilds want in the game, that's like a special thing just for guilds. That incentivizes a user who's not in a guild, who's playing the game and sees a YGG player they're going PvP against with a badge or some exclusive benefit, and they go, “I want to be in a guild now because I'm missing out.”
We need to work with guilds to understand what those features are so that the game actually recruits for your guild with these built-in features. That's where my head is going with this. And that's what could make Illuvium provide more value to guilds. Curious to know your thoughts.
Sedano (42:21): I agree. I think it goes both ways. Having a friendly guild system or features for other guilds to plug into benefits both parties. A new player hopping onto the game, looking for a guild to play with, and having a guild dashboard or recruitment system in-game matches these players to whatever teams they want to play for.
On the other side of things, like what we're doing in YGG, we've been doubling down on reputational systems — soulbound NFTs, Guild Badges. And we have seen this implemented with our other game partners, where you hop into the game, it’s your first time to register, you drop in, and you already see your Guild Badge popping up on top of your head. These are still at a fundamental level, but you can see all the possibilities.
And you could imagine having different guilds and giving them access to the same features. How cool would it be when Illuvium opens its gates and players drop in for the first time, Guild Badges are plugged in, everyone sees where each player is from, PvP is open, and then it just snowballs from there? We might be getting ahead of ourselves, but one thing I'm very happy with Illuvium and what you guys are building is that you have a set runway and you have a vision in mind that other people can understand — good graphics, different game modes, and you guys even started the tagline “Fight for ETH.”
