Unfold 2022: How Web3 Provides Equal Access to Opportunities

YGG Co-Founder Gabby Dizon sits down with STEPN co-founder, Yawn Rong, and YourStory founder and CEO, Shradha Sharma, to talk about how Web3 and decentralization are breaking the inequality barrier.

Unfold is an event dedicated to industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and influencers shaping the future of Web3 to share knowledge and exchange ideas on Web3 investing, emerging models in crypto innovation, and building and scaling for the next billion users. The event is hosted by CoinDCX, India’s cryptocurrency exchange dedicated to making crypto accessible in a simple way.

In this panel, YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon discusses the future of play-to-earn, innovative Web3 game designs and the benefits of blockchain games with the co-founder of the move-to-earn platform STEPN, Yawn Rong, and the founder and CEO of YourStory Media, Shradha Sharma.

Unfold 2022 India’s Premier Web3 Event

Shradha (5:24:04): We didn’t grow up in an equal world. There is this dream and hope that with decentralization, everyone will have the power. I want to ask both of you, as builders, as individuals, personally, what is the drive that keeps you excited about running STEPN and running YGG?

Yawn (5:25:34): For us, we want to build a larger ecosystem, more than just a game plan, more than just big Web3 apps. We want to build a Web3 ecosystem where the ecosystem will cover potentially new needs and capture new users. What drove us to work every day is that we wanted to build something that could connect people together, especially in Web3, utilize NFTs and hopefully, lead the industry. That's what we want to do.

Gabby (5:26:23): On my end, I think everyone here knows that the world is not built equally. Of course, there's a lot of talented people from their home cities in their countries that may not have the opportunity of others that are either born in some of the more prosperous cities or maybe are able to move — for example, moving to Bangalore, London or San Francisco for a greater opportunity. 

What really drives me with Web3 is that we want to give people — I don't think it's equality — but it's equal access to opportunity, no matter where you are in the world. We saw this with Axie Infinity, where people in the Philippines, India and Venezuela had access to an earning economy that was not available to the cities they were in, and they were paid at the same rate as someone who was living in some of the more developed cities and countries around the world. I think this is really the opportunity of Web3, giving people equal access to the learning skills and being able to earn assets and upside that they would normally not have access to.
