Pixels AMA: Want to Accomplish Greater Goals? Join a Guild!
In this AMA, Gabby, Luke and Heidi unveiled the early access version of Pixels’ new guild system, a feature that will enable greater community engagement, cooperation and collaborative gameplay.
Guilds are finally coming to Pixels, and the community has been buzzing with excitement since YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon joined Pixels founder Luke Barwikowski and Pixels CMO Heidi Christine to leak some alpha. On March 6, 2024, players took a break from their quests and flocked to the newly constructed Guild Castle to catch the livestream. More than 12,000 viewers tuned in, eager to learn about Pixels’ in-game guild system being developed in collaboration with YGG.
During the AMA, Gabby, Luke and Heidi discussed how the rollout of Pixels Guilds will unlock a new level of community collaboration and gameplay. They announced YGG’s Pixels Superquest, which will teach players all about the new Guilds feature, and talked about the launch of the first batch of guilds and the process for joining one. The group highlighted features like onchain management and potential integration with decentralized tools, while also addressing questions about membership costs and expiration. Pixels will open access to additional guilds over the next few weeks.
The following is an excerpt taken from the AMA. Gabby and Luke compare Pixels’ guild system to guilds in World of Warcraft, where players contribute special skills to advance through the game together as a group. The two founders also highlight how players with diverse specializations can achieve greater goals and discover bigger opportunities together, and what this might look like in Pixels.

Pixels AMA: GUILDS & Chapter 2
Luke (28:42): I'm curious about your thoughts on this, Gabby. We really view guilds more like — if you've ever played an MMO, like World of Warcraft — it's more of a group of people that are all playing together and organizing. The interesting thing about guilds here is that we can help these groups of players build up a bit of treasury to actually accomplish even greater goals, which is really cool. But we don't really want the guild manager to guild player relationship that we might have seen in version one of guilds. I'm curious on how you think about that.
Gabby (29:13): One of the best things about guilds — even if you go back to World of Warcraft, for example — is that it enables specialization with people that can get good at different things. And then being in a guild together allows you to form a group with very different and diverse skills that allow you to perform better as a team.
For example, you're in a game like WoW, that means you have your tank, you have your DPS (damage per second), you have your healer, you have your mage. And in Pixels, you've seen that there's a variety of stuff that you need to get good at, and it's very hard to get good at all of these things.
I do expect that guilds will be recruiting for members that — for example, I may have land, but even with those that don't have land, if they have time to play the game, they will get really specialized in different skills. And this is where I see this really coming into play. I can imagine that there are guild-based quests that will enable you to basically farm a huge amount of resources for a larger amount of rewards, for example, PIXEL token rewards that you couldn't get as an individual, but it will need a lot of resource crafting and farming. And that's where specialization comes in. And that's the kind of gameplay I’m expecting to see.
