Parallel Global Podcast: Why Web2’s TCG Pros Are Playing Parallel
YGG Esports Captain Disi joins teammates Tyler, Zeliaser and Feno to discuss Parallel’s new Battle Pass and how YGG questing programs like GAP add a more rewarding experience to the game.
The biggest web3 TCG game, Parallel, is headed to the YGG Play Summit in Manila this November, where players will compete for a US$100,000 prize pool. Two global online qualifiers will determine the top 16 players who will meet face-to-face in the tournament, with a total of 256 players vying for the coveted spots. Apart from the Parallel tournament, other esports competitions will be held at the YGG Play Summit, along with a conference and expo, an international cosplay contest, and the first in-person GAM3 Awards ceremony. As the big Parallel tournament approaches, YGG continues to build momentum, engaging competitive players interested in climbing the ranks while onboarding new players.
Earlier this month, YGG Esports Captain Disi joined his teammates Tyler, Feno and Zeliaser on a podcast where they discussed the meta changes from the latest Parallel update, the recent Battle Pass, and what decks they are playing. They also broke down how web3 is making it possible for players to own their digital assets and sell them, highlighting the increasing number of professional players from different TCGs now making their mark on the Parallel leaderboards.
The following is an excerpt from the podcast, where Tyler, Feno and Disi talk about how recent changes in Parallel have been attracting web2 players who recognize the value to be gained from the game. The group also discusses how YGG enhanced Parallel players’ experience through its integration into Season 6 of the Guild Advancement Program (GAP), which gave additional rewards to questers who completed Battle Pass levels.
Parallel Global Podcast ft. Disi, Feno, Tyler & Zeliaser
Tyler (18:57): In a way, it makes the card more valuable if everyone needs to have three copies. I think that's what's driving the price up. Is that going to piss people off? Probably some people are already pissed off. In a way, it gives a good incentive for people to also get the Battle Pass. Personally, when I’m onboarding web2 people and they don't want to touch the crypto thing at all, the only thing I need to tell them is to get the freaking Battle Pass. You will at least get your $20 back and profit.
It’s such a good selling point. I feel like it’s a good way to promote the Battle Pass for people that weren't that much into crypto. At least, that's been working out great for me. The previous months, the cards were just legendary and some of them sold for $10 or $20 so it wasn't that great to advertise. I feel like this month I have to tell everyone it's worth it. I don't know if that was their intention, but if it was, it is working because it's such a good deal.
Feno (20:05): We were talking with the team at Gamescom, and they were unsure how sustainable it is to give a legendary in the Battle Pass every time. They wanted to experiment with something new. It makes sense.
Disi (20:20): Just a side note to you guys. We were talking about how important it is to get the Battle Pass this season. If you guys didn't know, the Parallel premium quest on GAP only requires you to finish Battle Pass level 30. In terms of return on investment, that's crazy, especially now with how important the Battle Pass is compared to the other seasons. I cannot confirm the next season's premium quest is the same, but if it is, it's a win-win for everyone.
Feno (21:07): You're giving people motivation to do the right play.
Disi (21:12): This is the best play for you to get everything back. So if you guys haven't checked it yet, go to yieldguild.io and check GAP. The next season will start in a few weeks. Then you can see if the same quest comes in and it's totally worth it for you guys to check it out.
Tyler (21:33): It just sounds almost too good to be true. “Yo, bro, just start playing Parallel, you get a free deck, a free top-tier deck from what you create. Now all you need to do is spend $20 on the Battle Pass, and you can sell your card for probably more than that, because this month's card is insane. Oh yeah, and if you're playing the game already and finishing the Battle Pass, just sign up to YGG and do the GAP quests. At the end of the season, they'll reward you with some points worth YGG tokens, which are worth actual money. Your $20, you make it back way easy — for free, basically.”
