Glitchwire: Web3 Leaders are Molded Onchain
YGG co-founder Beryl Li joins Blokhaus Director of Engagement Marissa Trew on the Glitchwire podcast to discuss how YGG is molding future web3 leaders onchain.
With Season 5 of the Guild Advancement Program (GAP) drawing near, users have taken to social media, posting “Wen GAP Season 5” to hype the next installment of one of YGG’s most-loved initiatives. A big driver of their anticipation comes off the success of GAP Season 4, which introduced the Reputation and Progression (RAP) system. RAP, along with YGG’s focus on community-driven development, created an environment that allowed players to cultivate a diverse range of skills in content creation, community building, in-game leadership, and more. Participants said they found the GAP experience rewarding, as they found new ways to demonstrate their achievements and build their onchain reputation.
In this episode of the Glitchwire podcast, YGG co-founder Beryl Li spoke with Blokhaus Director of Engagement Marissa Trew on the importance of establishing an onchain reputation for web3 gamers. During their conversation, Beryl explained how YGG’s implementation of Soulbound Tokens (SBTs) has allowed players to earn badges that reflect their activity within the entire web3 gaming ecosystem. Regardless of whether a player is a completionist, a fixture of ranked lobbies, or even a widely-loved content creator, their hard-won reputation can be showcased, preserved and verified through the GAP.
The following is an excerpt taken from the podcast, where Beryl highlights how YGG is leveraging web3 to celebrate and safeguard player achievements, as well as providing them with opportunities to step into leadership positions within their communities.

Glitchwire: Leveling Up Blockchain Gaming
Marrissa (27:00): This is where I want to bring the conversation back to Axie Infinity and its boom in the Philippines. Entities like YGG are helping bridge the tech gap by making blockchain tech more accessible to people within emerging economies, where the financialization element might be a bit of a higher priority than elsewhere.
Beryl (27:19): It's also about upskilling community members and training them. This is where our Guild Advancement Program (GAP) comes in. This is focused on different members of the community, future moderators, managers of games, influencers, and so on.
They have a set of programs and achievements that they need to complete, and every achievement is recorded onchain. Then, they get a badge to prove that they went through this program, kind of like a certificate in the web2 world. We call these soulbound tokens (SBTs). It’s a badge to confirm that you've completed this program.
And now, because they've completed this program, they're able to apply for a role as a moderator within these games or our Discord channel within YGG. That upskills them, especially in web3. I believe that web3 will grow over time, and we need to upskill them for future opportunities within the web3 economy. That's what YGG is doing. We're providing them with training programs, giving them access to these tools.
For instance, how do you set up a wallet? How do you transfer funds from one wallet to another wallet? Over time, they're building beneficial skills like how to identify scams. You won't get that in school.
