Block by Block: Global Opportunities for the Metaverse Filipino Worker
Gabby joined Cluster Capital partner Peter Abilla on the Block by Block podcast to talk about the alternative career paths Filipinos are pursuing in Web3 as Metaverse Filipino Workers.
The new short film Metaverse Filipino Worker, just released on YouTube, features members of the YGG Pilipinas community who are building careers in Web3 and redefining what it means to work globally. Transforming the narrative of the Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), whose only choice to support their family was to work abroad, Web3 provides the Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) the option to seek international opportunities without leaving home.
YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon recently joined Cluster Capital partner Peter Abilla on the Block by Block podcast to discuss how YGG supports its community in uncovering those opportunities. They talked about YGG’s efforts to connect people with shared interests and help them achieve common goals. This includes joining or starting an Onchain Guild, exploring Web3 games through questing platforms like the Guild Advancement Program (GAP), and completing AI and deep learning tasks through Future of Work (FoW).
The following is an excerpt from Gabby and Peter’s conversation. In this segment, Gabby delves into the Metaverse Filipino Worker short film, framing MFWs as the new OFWs. He also shares the thinking behind the MFW campaign to onboard more Filipinos to Web3.

Block by Block: Notifying the GameFi Cabal
Peter (31:06): Going back to your goal for 2025 and messaging and positioning for Web2 gamers, do you have a sense of what that positioning looks or sounds like? Or is that a narrative you're working on right now?
Gabby (31:19): We're going to start with a big campaign in the Philippines. We premiered a short film called Metaverse Filipino Worker. This is a follow-up to the original that we made, called Play-to-Earn, that we released four years ago. It kind of put YGG on the map, along with Axie and the play-to-earn narrative.
Metaverse Filipino Worker is a story about different people in the Philippines, very normal people who found their own niche in Web3, as community managers, esports players, and content creators. It shows how they were able to take control of their lives, earn money, and be with their families without having to leave the Philippines.
We'll be doing big promotions, and starting with the Philippines, we want to partner with big Web2 brands. We're not talking at first about crypto, Web3 or play-to-earn. We're framing it as, the MFW or the Metaverse Filipino Worker is the new OFW. The OFW, or Overseas Filipino Worker, is very common in the Philippines. More than 10% of the Filipino population is outside of the Philippines, doing a lot of work overseas and bringing home a lot of money to the Philippine economy by remittances.
We want to position it that way so that it’s very relatable to Filipinos, and saying, “Maybe I can earn money similar to what the OFWs are making and bring money back to the Philippines, but I don't have to leave my home. All I need is a computer or a phone, internet access, and a crypto wallet, and I can start earning in my own hometown.”
