Base Around the World: Web3 Is the Revolution We Were Promised
Gabby joined Jesse Pollak of Base, Wei Zhou of Coins.ph, Nael Christian of Tokenomy, and Utah Taneerat of Bitkub to discuss the impact of web3 on the global unbanked population.
Through web3, millions of people worldwide have gained the ability to participate in the global economy for the first time in their lives. This is especially true in Southeast Asia, one of the biggest web3 hubs in the world. As recently as 2022, more than 70% of the region’s population was reported to have little to no access to traditional banking solutions. Web3 gaming has been a gateway for many to access alternative financial services while offering an engaging method to improve financial literacy.
Recently, YGG co-founder Gabby Dizon joined Coins.ph CEO Wei Zhou, Tokenomy CMO Nael Christian, and Bitkub Business Partnerships Manager Utah Taneerat, and Base founder Jesse Pollak for an online panel promoting the Base Around the World global Build-a-Thon. The group did a deep dive into how the emergence of stablecoins has improved crypto’s capability to facilitate cross-border remittances. This development has positively impacted the financial realities of individuals all over the world, particularly in Southeast Asia. In the words of Gabby, “This is the revolution we were promised.”
The following is an excerpt from the segment, where Gabby gives advice to builders in the region and emphasizes the importance of staying true to crypto and web3’s goal of providing real value and utility to people all over the world.

Base Around the World: Southeast Asia
Jesse (16:50): I think it’s really cool that we have stablecoins, real savings accounts, and real lending products. You can get people into this new economy and give them a better life by leveraging this technology platform. Now, I’d like to hear from each of you all on what you’d like to see from [the Base Around the World] Build-a-Thon, and one piece of advice you’d give to builders who are thinking about building something cool.
Gabby (17:28): I’ll start with advice because that’s a lot easier. For us, we are like a community infrastructure for onboarding. Most of the people that we work with don’t come because of crypto. They come because they can do a lot of things with us — whether it’s playing a game, doing tasks, creating content, data labeling — and then get paid.
With that interaction in mind, working your way back to product, like, “Let me do something valuable, put it onchain, have it verified, and then get paid back tokens, stablecoins” — that’s the core interaction that matters. Obviously, we’re here to help you find the community onboarding, but that’s the core loop we’re looking for from builders.
