ANC Business Roadshow: Setting Up Web3 Gamers for Long-Term Success IRL
YGG Pilipinas Campaign Director John Sedano joined Stanley Palisada on the ANC Business Roadshow to share how YGG is educating Filipinos on the opportunities that await them in web3 gaming.
Aside from its onchain initiatives, YGG has made the effort to rally together its community and expand its ranks IRL through events such as the YGG Web3 Games Summit (W3GS). Through its role as YGG’s regional guild partner in the Philippines, YGG Pilipinas has also brought web3 directly to local communities through the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip, greeting attendees with a simple message: web3 opens doors to countless opportunities. At the Roadtrip, YGG Pilipinas’ educational program Web3 Metaversity has provided hundreds of Filipinos with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in this new space.
YGG Pilipinas has been working with the country’s Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) during the Roadtrip to coordinate with schools, universities and local government units, encouraging them to attend the event. The recently concluded Batangas leg was attended by over 1,000 locals including gamers, students and government officials, as well as web3 enthusiasts from nearby regions.
Recently, YGG Pilipinas Campaign Director John Sedano spoke with Stanley Palisada on the ABS-CBN News Channel’s (ANC) Business Roadshow about the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip and the resurgence of web3 gaming in the Philippines. ABS-CBN has long been considered the top broadcast network in the Philippines. Its recent shift towards an online distribution model looks to maintain its relevance in the ever-evolving media landscape.
The nature of the web3 gaming ecosystem enables players, community leaders, game testers and developers to be rewarded for their contributions to their respective communities. Through its grassroots outreach, YGG Pilipinas has made a significant impact on building up the Philippine web3 gaming community and breaking down any barriers players may encounter en route to accessing those opportunities. Given how the play-to-earn boom began in a province in the Philippines all those years ago, YGG Pilipinas has made it a priority to continue serving these provincial markets.
The following is an excerpt from Sedano’s appearance on ANC’s Business Roadshow. Over the course of his interview, Sedano touched on the openness of youth in the provinces to web3 gaming, as well as the massive opportunities available to them should they decide to enter this emerging sector of gaming.

Business Roadshow | ANC (16 April 2024) - Interview with John Sedano
Stanley (27:06): How are Filipinos warming up to this new kind of gaming?
Sedano (27:10): They love it. With the hype of Axie Infinity during the lockdown two years ago, the industry is cyclical. Cryptocurrency is cyclical. But with newer games coming in and also the streamlining of how these games are played, there's a lot more opportunities that show up for Filipinos. You don't just have to be a gamer now. You can be a community builder, you can be a leader, and you can also be a game tester. There's a lot more ways to participate in game economies, not just by playing anymore.
Stanley (27:47): You intend to reach out to more communities by going all over, from outside Metro Manila up to the provinces up in Batangas. You will be in Baguio very soon, and Mindanao again in time for that convention in November. How was that experience? Going out there, reaching out to people, and inviting them into web3 gaming?
Sedano: (27:59): I'll be very honest. I was pretty surprised to see the younger generation very open to this kind of technology and learning about web3, about cryptocurrencies, and about blockchain. It's not that easy to digest, but the younger generation is doing great. It's pretty surprising to see them actually taking the first few steps forward and being the ones reaching out and wanting to learn more about these games, about other opportunities, and about all the other jobs that they can take. They do understand that the world is changing, and they want to be part of it. That's where we come in. It’s our job to connect the gamers and the games and provide opportunities for everyone.
